This fabulous collection is supposed to be the opposite of the "hits" collections; these are many of Richard's favorite "album cuts," meaning songs that were not singles.
What is so nice about the collection is the amount of re-recording and remixing that took place specifically for this collection. Almost all the pre-1973 recordings have new piano/keyboard tracks, and the difference is stunning in some cases. "Crystal Lullaby" has a corrected "S" as well -- in the original version, a bad punch-out at the beginning of a phrase had Karen's word "sometimes" sounding more like "tumtimes." Richard went back in 1987 and added the "S" sound himself on another track and mixed it in to correct the problem.
This album was the first place that "Slow Dance" was heard (coming two years before Lovelines was released). Treasures is certainly one of the most important compilations released, since many of the songs here have never appeared on any other anthology.
